Dragon Ball Super’s first movie trailer came out a few days ago showing Goku and an unknown Saiyan staring each other down. While Goku is warming up, the unknown warrior just looks down, waiting for Goku to attack him first. This Saiyan with gold eyes and green aura is said to be the new villain of the upcoming movie.
His most notable feature besides his green aura and gold eyes is the Saiyan outfit he’s wearing. Is this character the first Super Saiyan Yamoshi? Or is this a new villain that Goku and company will fight in the current timeline? The unknown Saiyan : Based on the character’s outfit, he is a Saiyan from the past, as his outfit looks like the traditional Saiyan outfit before Frieza started his invasion.
It is not yet known whether the story will happen in the past through the use of a time machine or if Saiyans from the past will be revived. It is also possible that the unknown warrior is the Saiyan King from Planet Sadara. As far as we know, only the Universe 6 Saiyans still wear the ancient outfit. Without any other clues, fans are left to wonder: Who is the unknown fighter?
Is he actually a Saiyan? The most popular theory right now is that Yamoshi is the warrior facing Goku. Akira Toriyama is not likely going to introduce a character if that character is not the next big thing, right? The Legendary Super Saiyan : Only Kale (canon) and Broly have this form. If the lore is considered, the story of the Legendary Super Saiyan might appear in the movie.
So if Yamoshi is the first Super Saiyan, is he also the first Legendary Super Saiyan? This tweet from “Dragon Ball Super” fan Ajay suggests the likelihood of Yamoshi being the first LSSJ. Akira Toriyama stated that the Legendary Super Saiyan that Frieza feared is actually the same as the Super Saiyan God that appeared in “Battle of Gods.” Furthermore, he even stated that the name of that man is Yamoshi, who is the first SSJ.

LSSJ is also a Super Saiyan form, and it is possible that LSSJ was Yamoshi’s last transformation before he died. LSSJ is the second branch of SSJ transformations, the other branch being the usual SS2 upwards, as per Dragon Ball Wiki. It seems like a different type of Saiyan can only transform into LSSJ, like Kale. Goku, Vegeta, and others who achieved SSJ2 do not belong to this type, and that is why their next transformation after SSJ is not LSSJ.
This might also be the true form of SSJ, as stated by Vegeta when he saw Kale transform for the first time.
